District: 3220

Project Overview:

The Arayampathy District Hospital, situated in the Manmunai Pattu divisional secretariat area, serves as the local district hospital, strategically positioned approximately 10 kilometres from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. The hospital currently operates with a dedicated team of six doctors who provide essential healthcare services to the community.

This district hospital plays a crucial role as the primary healthcare provider for around 32,000 residents, efficiently managing the Out-Patient Department (OPD), alongside medical, paediatric, and obstetrics clinics, and making the most of the available resources. However, resource constraints often necessitate the transfer of a significant number of patients to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.

Regrettably, the hospital has experienced limited development since the end of the war, with only three doctors currently on staff. A critical issue that needs urgent attention is the restoration of the hospital's morgue, including repairing the deteriorated facility and its refrigeration system. The absence of proper cooling mechanisms forces the hospital to either allow bodies to decompose or transfer them to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations. This poses health risks to the public and environmental challenges while placing a significant burden on the community, which faces difficulties and additional expenses in preserving bodies through private funeral services.

Moreover, the hospital faces challenges related to access to the mortuary, as a long, overgrown passage obstructs the transfer of bodies. Hospital beds cannot navigate this passage, making it essential to improve access.

Proposing an upgrade that encompasses both infrastructure and medical equipment aims to revitalise the Arayampathy District Hospital, transforming it into a facility capable of providing essential and enhanced medical services to the community. This development holds the potential to significantly improve healthcare provisions for residents, ensuring they have access to essential medical care within their own district.

Name: Provision Of Water And Sanitary Facilities In Six Schools With Behavi

Global Grant Number: GG1750817

Budget: USD 52,751

Host Club: RC Pandaripuram

District: 3150

International Sponsor Club: RC The Hills-Kellyville

District: 9685

Project Overview:

The primary objective of this project is to address critical infrastructure needs in six Government High Schools situated in the Guntur and Prakasam Districts of Andhra Pradesh. These needs encompass ensuring the availability of safe and plentiful drinking water and separate sanitary facilities for both male and female students. Additionally, the project aims to instigate positive behavioural change among a total of 3,552 enrolled students, including 1,449 boys and 2,103 girls, spanning the 6th to 10th grades.

The project's expected outcomes are two-fold. Firstly, it strives to improve student attendance rates in Government High Schools by providing access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities, thus reducing dropout rates. Secondly, the initiative seeks to elevate the quality of education provided to these students, contributing to a more conducive learning environment. Ultimately, the successful execution of this endeavour holds the potential to create a more inclusive and effective educational experience for the children involved, ensuring they have access to the essential amenities needed to thrive in their academic journey.

Name: Visionary SPECTRALIS OCT Diagnostic Eye Imaging Equipment Saving Children's Sight

Global Grant Number: GG1870994

Budget: USD 116,557

Host Club: RC The Hills-Kellyville

District: 9685

International Sponsor Club: RC Madras Coromandel

District: 3232

Project Overview:

The Children's Hospital at Westmead, a pivotal institution in the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, caters to an extensive number of paediatric patients in Australia. It annually handles 51,000 inpatient admissions, 92,000 Emergency Department visits, and over one million outpatient health consultations.

The hospital houses a unique facility known as the Eye Clinic, which serves as the sole clinic and treatment centre exclusively dedicated to children’s eye health in New South Wales. The clinic's mission is to restore sight and prevent blindness in children, earning international recognition as a centre of excellence. Annually, over 8,500 children benefit from its specialised services, including ophthalmology and genetics, among others.

The clinic's primary service is a high-priority state-wide Eyesight Preschool Screening (StEPS) program across three sites. Additionally, the clinic treats a range of eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinoblastoma, and more. It plays a crucial role in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating sight-threatening conditions through the latest SPECTRALIS OCT diagnostic eye imaging technology. This technology, with its high-resolution imaging capabilities, enables early diagnosis and precise monitoring, benefiting an estimated 1,500 children annually.

By preserving and enhancing children's vision, preventing visual impairment, and improving their quality of life, the project aims to make a lasting impact. The advanced SPECTRALIS OCT technology is expected to benefit an increasing number of children and adults by enabling early interventions and improved patient outcomes.
